Web hosting server

A server dedicated to hosting a service or services for users. Hosting servers are most often used for hosting web sites but can also be used for hosting files, images, games and similar content. Hosting servers can be shared among many clients or dedicated to a single client, the latter of which is particularly common for larger web sites where the hosting needs of the web site owner necessitate more control or bandwidth.

A web host is the business of providing server space. Web services and file maintenance for web sites controlled by individuals or companies that do not have their own web servers. Many ISP will allow subscribers a small amount of server space to host a personal web page. Other commercial ISPs will charge the user a fee depending on the complexity of the site being hosted. A hosting serviceprovider (HSP) is an application service provider dedicated to providing hosting service.

Single page hosting is generally sufficient for personal web pages. A complex site calls for a more comprehensive package that provides data base support and application development platforms. These facilities allow customers to write or install scripts for applications like forums and content management. Also Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is typically used for web sites that wish to keep the data transmitted more secure.
